As a part of our personal spiritual development, our staff is reading Robby Gallaty's first book on discipleship entitled, "Growing Up." In Chapter 6, He makes a strong case for reading, learning, knowing, and obeying scripture. He says, "It's not how much Bible you know, rather it's how much Bible you do." That's a powerful statement for Christ-followers because the doing is essential.

He also unpacks that the #1 thing for authentic Bible interpretation is "CONTEXT." Simply put, context is the setting (Cultural, personal, situational) that an Inspired writer is in when he pens. Robbie further reminds us Peter's words that 'no scripture is open to one's own interpretation.' This is why our teachers study the scripture each week. Without their background study, we would just be pooling our ignorance. But because they study, they learn the context, and teach the truth of God's word. Robby ended with this: "One interpretation - many applications."

For 'that' reason, we get to Chapter 3 and read Paul saying, "For this reason." Considering the context, we look back into the previous chapter as well as into the history of Paul's first writing. Paul didn't create the chapters and verses; he simply wrote a letter. So the "for this reason' is like a therefore (find out what it's 'there for'). Look back at what we think of as chapter 2 and remember his words, "you were dead, but in Christ God has made you alive, to sit in heavenly places with Him, for you were saved by your faith through His grace, not something you did, but something you received as His free gift. Now, you are his workmanship, created in Christ for the good works God has planned for you to do. Because you have been saved, you are member of His blood-bought family, built on the foundation of Jesus, being put together and built up in Him, become a temple."
