Romans 4:17-21
- Many do not know what they believe, nor why they believe it.
-Faith is that which governs every aspect of our Christian life
We are SAVED by faith {Eph. 2:8}
We are SUSTAINED by faith
We are SECURED by faith {I Peter 1:5}
1. FAITH MUST HAVE A VALID CONTENT
A. THE PERSON IN WHICH HE BELIEVED
1. {Notice verse 17}. "As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations, before him who he believed, EVEN GOD who quickeneth the dead."
2. The person in which he believed was the same God who had delivered the promise in Genesis 17: 5.
3. It was there that God changed his name from Abram to 'Abraham.' The letter 'h' denoted that he was going to be the father of many nations. It was the promise of God backed up by the power of God.
B. THE PURPOSE FOR WHICH HE BELIEVED
1. {Notice verse 17.} "and calleth those things which be not as though they were."
2. {Notice verse 18.} "Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken."
3. Faith is not just hope. It is contrary to hope, yet it rests in hope. It is more than a better hope, it is a blessed hope.
4. Faith is not unrealistic. Faith latches a hold of that which God has promised.
