Exodus 20:16 - "Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour."

A man went to see a marriage counselor because he and his wife were having problems. The counselor said, "you have grounds for all this difficulty?"
The man said, "Grounds - why we have about an acre and a half."
"No, you misunderstand - Do you have a grudge?"
"No, sir - but we do have a carport."
"I'm trying to find out what is the problem of your marriage. Does your wife beat you up?"
"No, I get up about 30 minutes before her each morning."
"Then what is your problem?"
The man replied, "You can't carry on a decent conversation with that woman!"

A man and woman were sitting together in church, and he got to thinking how wonderful it was to be married to her. They had been married for about 40 years and they were blissfully happy - he thought. So he took an offering envelope and wrote on it, "I'm proud of you." He then handed it to her - but his handwriting wasn't too good. So she tried to read it - thought for about five minutes - then wrote a note to him - "I'm tired of you too!"

How to stand against the words of others.

We are told that it is dangerous to be around people who smoke. It is called "passive smoking" or "second-hand smoke" because a person takes in their system the smoke that others exhale into the air.

"Passive words" are just as dangerous. That is - to just passively take in the unsolicited and the unbiblical words of other people. Just to accept them as true - truth about yourself - truth about other individuals.

The word "Bear" means - "even to begin to speak - to utter - false - witness (testimony) against your neighbor (to all of your associates - friends - family)."

"You shall not even begin to speak a testimony that is not absolutely true against any associate."
