"Who Are You?"
Jerry N Watts
Genesis 1:26-28 / Ephesians 1:1-13
The week before Easter, the message was entitled, "Who is Jesus?" That is extremely important for us to know the Bible truth about Him. Many voices today are saying, "He's a good man, a prophet, or a great teacher," don't miss the truth that He is God's Son, the Godman, the second person in the trinity, and the Savior of mankind. Jesus said, "If you want to be my disciple, you must." TO do the 'must,' we must see and know about 'self.' So let's shift our focus to the extremely important question of....
"WHO ARE YOU?" (Who Am I?) Don't answer, "Well, I'm me" because that doesn't do you justice. The better question might be, "What defines who you are?"
The last time we lived in the Pensacola area was my last music position. Our pastor, Bro. Al, was a dear friend who was also a pretty fair musician and had a great sense of humor. How many times have I heard him sing the funny song, "It's hard to be humble when you're as great as I am." We'd hear him sing it, laugh, and have a great time. For transparency, he didn't think he was that great, but he loved having fun and laughing.
But as I considered this topic, I thought it very instructive how would I (you) describe 'self' today? Who am I? Who are you? (2 songs) We need to know who we are if we are to follow Him as His disciple. How you and I answer that question is directly related to HOW WE VIEW THE WORLD or what is called our "Worldview". WE don't have time for a discussion of "Worldview", but it is relevant to finding our answer to this question. Worldview is the LENS through which we view the world. Sadly, many inside the church see the world through a largely secularistic view. If we are to live life to the fullest, be everything God created us to be, find true fulfillment and meaning in life, we must discover and embrace God's vision. (2 pt message) Today, we look at 2 part.
