This morning I'm beginning a sermon series called, Foundations: what every Christian ought to know. We will spend a good bit of time here at the beginning of this new year, talking about the fundamentals and essentials of our faith. My hope is that this is a very practical series that will help form a firm foundation for your faith.
Today, we begin with one thing every Christian ought to know. And I really don't know of a better place to start. Every Christian ought to know that The Bible Is the Word of God. Find 2 Timothy 3:16-17 in your Bible. That's where we'll spend our time today. Here's what I mean - when I say the Bible is the Word of God, I don't mean that this book simply teaches us about God, or merely shows us the path to God. Those things are important. What I mean is this is the inspired, inerrant, infallible, inexhaustible Word of God. We'll talk about what that means in our message today. READ TEXT - PRAY
*Mrs. Jones relaxed by reading her Bible each day. After observing this habit for several years, her 5-year-old daughter asked, "Aren't you ever going to get finished reading that book?"1 The old evangelist, Gipsy Smith, told of a man who said he had received no inspiration from the Bible although he had "gone through it several times."
