We're in a series on Sunday mornings called, Foundations: what every Christian ought to know. We are talking about the fundamentals and essentials of our faith. Today, I want to talk to you about this subject: How To Be Sure You Are Eternally Secure. READ TEXT - PRAY
*Think about this question for a moment. And before you answer out loud, really think about it. Is there anything better than being saved? Immediately, you may want to answer that question by saying, "I can't think of anything better than being saved." But it's a bit of a loaded question. Because I think there is something better than being saved. Before you kick me out, let me explain. What's better than being saved? Being saved and knowing that you're saved! Is there anything better than that? Yes, there is! Being saved and knowing that you're saved and knowing that you can never ever lose your salvation!* 1
This morning, we are talking about eternal security. What do we mean when we use that phrase? Here's what we mean: when you are genuinely saved by repenting of your sin and trusting in Jesus, you can never lose that salvation. You are completely assured of a relationship with God, the indwelling Holy Spirit, and a home in heaven one day.
Jude 24 says, "Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory..." (ON SCREEN) Our eternal security is a result of God's power to keep us, not our power to stay saved.2
*I want you to imagine a scenario with me for a moment. Imagine there's a little boy or girl waiting in foster care to be adopted. And one day, a loving family comes and adopts that child. They look at that little boy or girl and say, "You are now part of our family. We have adopted you. You belong to us." But then one day, that child disobeys and does something wrong.
