*Imagine that you are suffering from a life-threatening disease. You have consulted every medical professional possible with no answers. Slowly but surely, you are wasting away; with no hope for a cure. Then one day, magically and mysteriously, an angel appears to you and says, "Here's a book that contains all the answers you need to be completely healed. It's really simple actually. You just have to read it, understand it, and follow the instructions." You open the book with joy, hoping to be healed, but then you realize something tragic. This book that contains all the answers you need is impossible for you to read. It's in a language you don't know and can't understand. All of the answers are there, you just can't comprehend what it says. I have no doubt you would do everything possible to find someone, somewhere who could help you understand what's in the book. Someone to translate it for you so you know what you need to do to live.*
This book, the Bible, has all of the answers you need for life and for eternity. It tells us that we have when we have the Scriptures, we everything we need for "life and godliness." Sadly, however, many people simply can't understand the Bible. They read it and they say it just doesn't make sense.
