The Advantage of Properly Using our Christian Liberty!

1 Corinthians 10:16-33
A young man called his mother and announced excitedly that he had just met the woman of his dreams. Now what should he do?
His mother had an idea: "Why don't you send her flowers, and on the card invite her to your place for a home-cooked meal?"
He thought this was a great strategy and arranged a date for a week later. His mother called the day after the big date to see how things had gone.
"The evening was a disaster," he moaned.
"Why, didn't she come over?" asked his mother.
"Oh, she came over, but she refused to cook."
Paul's point is that partaking in a religious feast means fellowshipping with the one worshiped at that feast. This is true of the Lord's Supper (1 Cor. 10:16-17), it was true of Israel in OT times (1 Cor. 10:18), and it is true of a pagan feast (1 Cor. 10:19-22). Therefore, believers must not fellowship at pagan feasts since they may thereby open themselves to demonic attacks (1 Cor. 10:20).-Ryrie Study Notes

That cup became the one used to institute the Lord's Supper. He set the cup apart as a token of salvation blessing before passing it to the 12 (see notes on ...
