Arthur Lampitt, 75 years of age at the time, was working outside his home moving concrete blocks in his backyard when he experienced a sharp pain in his arm and noticed a protrusion under the skin. He went to the doctor who promptly called for an X-ray which revealed a 7" piece of metal lodged in Arthur's arm.

Arthur's mind flashed back to a head-on collision he had 51 years earlier when a truck slammed into his new 1963 Thunderbird. Looking back, he suspected doctors brushed aside his arm injury because they were so focused on his severely broken hip and damaged leg. Arthur's self-diagnosis was right. When the doctor's removed the piece of metal, they discovered it was the blinker arm, from a 1963 T-Bird.

It was an unwanted souvenir from an unwelcomed accident. This souvenir that finally made its way to the surface had been a hidden source of discomfort and pain for most of Arthur's life. (World Magazine, January 24, 2015)

Like Arthur, we have all experienced some head-on collisions in life. I am not talking about car-crashes but the wrecks we have on the highway of life - the tragedies, hurts, betrayals, losses, disappointments, the inevitable pain of sin (whether ours and others), and injustices.

If we are not careful, if we won't deal with those collisions the right way, we will carry unwanted and unexpected souvenirs with us throughout our lives. They will be a source discomfort. There will be residual pain. There will cause radiating pain that extends to almost every area of our lives.

Make no mistake. You may think they are hidden deep but over time, but they have a way of working themselves to the surface.

The only way to deal with the hurt caused by life's collisions is to allow the Word of God and the Spirit of God to penetrate beneath the surface and reveal to us what we are carrying inside of us that doesn't belong. Then we will need to rely on Hi ...
