The Light of Truth (3 of 6)
Series: Walk in the Light

1 John 2:18-27; 4:1-6

Good morning Chapel family. We're taking this winter to walk through the book of 1 John, which is a little letter that John wrote to a group of Christians around 90AD. This is the same John who wrote the Gospel of John, and in this letter he doesn't tell us anything new about Jesus that's not already in his Gospel; what he does is show us how to walk with Christ. Specifically, how do you walk in relationship with Jesus in a world that's become really dark?

There's phrase in the first chapter that we're using as the Big Idea of this whole series. In 1 John 1:7 it says walk in the light, as he is in the light. Would you join me in saying that out loud? Walk in the light, as he is in the light. It's so much better than walking in the darkness. And that's what this letter is all about: living with sense of openness and clarity and truth by walking with Jesus Christ.

Maybe you're thinking, "Why is that so important? Why can we all just make up our own truth? As long as it works for us." And the answer is this: if there actually is such a thing of truth, then missing it or denying it will have really harmful consequences.

Back in 1999, John F. Kennedy, Jr. took off from Caldwell Airport in a little private plane, headed for Martha's Vineyard. And you know the story-he never got there. The plane crashed into the Atlantic Ocean, and all three passengers died. An arti ...
