Introduction


One of my favorite sounds in a Sunday corporate service is the sound of children and babies. I know there's the whole emphasis on a "distraction-free" service, but listen friends, I've pastored churches where there are no little ones at all, churches that were aging out, not reaching new families. The sound of kids should be of great joy to us, that from the earliest of ages children are hearing the gospel, that younger families are striving to make God's worship a priority, that God is continuing to do a new thing.

I'm so grateful for our incredible kids and youth ministries and the amazing discipleship happening under Amanda and Adam and their teams! But I encourage my kids to come to corporate worship. Go to the Park for one service and then come over here. Don't grow up thinking you're J.V. members of the church or just need to stay somewhere else. Let's have our kids and our teenagers engaged in every aspect of worshiping and serving Jesus with us!

As our kids age there are certainly whole new challenges that come but also amazing blessings as well. Me kids are finally now old enough to get themselves dressed in the morning, make their beds, make their own breakfasts; they can go outside and play by themselves; Teresa and I can even leave them home for a little while we walk down to the bay. All that to say, I love babies and holding them but I really enjoy and appreciate no longer having babies and toddlers of my own!

Think about it, for our parents out there, can you think of a more life-altering event than the birth of your first child? Whatever routine you and your spouse had went out the window when that little one arrived. I mean there's the obvious things like the sleep and feeding schedule, but just simple stuff like going to the store isn't so simple anymore. Everything changes and you can't possibly go back.
