Rebuilding Faithful Prayer (2 of 8)
Series: Nehemiah
Ross Lester
Nehemiah 1:4-11
Intro:
Morning church. Nehemiah 1:4 is where we will be. We are continuing in our study of Nehemiah together. Again, I would encourage you to get a copy of the guide. It is excellent and will help you a lot in getting a deeper understanding of this ancient narrative.
Today we are going to jump into a famous prayer uttered by Nehemiah. In fact, prayer is a central theme of Nehemiah's life and story. The prayer we will look at today is the first of 9 recorded prayers we have from Nehemiah. Some are long, some are really short, but you never get to go long in the life of Nehemiah without him pausing to pray.
Prayer is a remarkable thing to consider, right? I mean part of what we believe as Christians is that through Jesus Christ we have free access to speak to the God of the universe through prayer. That is incredible to think about. That the maker of the universe would listen to us, and speak back, and respond?
D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones said ... "Of all of the blessings of Christian salvation none is greater than this, that we have access to God in prayer."
We believe some genuinely incredible things.
But, even with that wonder in mind, do you ever find yourself in a season where you don't know what to pray anymore? Sometimes we can engage such a Divine opportunity without anything much to say. This is usually as a result of suffering, and I have experienced it on a few occasions in my walk with Christ. Where there is pain, and hurt, and confusion, or just numbness, and you open your mouth to pray ... but nothing happens. You have an audience with the King of Kings but you have nothing in particular you would like to say to Him, or don't feel certain He would hear if you did.
Came close to it even in this last week. Gonna sound like a whiner, but it has been a tough and frustrating old week, where I have wondered what to say to the Lord.
