INTRODUCTION

When the Garden Tomb was discovered in 1885, a Godly man, by the name of General Gordon, was convinced that this was the place where Jesus had lain. There was a traditional tomb inside the wall of modern Jerusalem, but there was no real evidence linking it to Jesus' burial place. The Garden Tomb, hidden for centuries, was covered by rubbish 20 feet high. When the first cleared the spot, with great caution, they removed all of the dust and debris and shipped it off to a lab in Great Britain for examination. They analyzed all of the human remains, and discovered that there was no trace of any human remains. Upon receiving the news, General Gordon was reminded of the words of John 19: 41, "Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new sepulchre, wherein was never man yet laid." He concluded that, "This was the real Garden Tomb, and Jesus was the first to be laid there, and also the last!"

Someone has well said that, "The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the most wicked, vicious, heartless hoax ever foisted upon the minds of men, or it is the most fantastic fact of history!" I agree with that statement wholeheartedly. You see, the truthfulness of Christianity rests upon this issue. The credibility of Jesus Himself hinges upon whether He rose bodily from the grave as He said He would.

Listen to what some famous people down through the years have said as they faced death. Voltaire, the infidel said, "I am abandoned by God and man. I shall go to hell!" Charles IX of France said, "What evil I have followed, I am lost, and I see it!" Hobbes the atheist said, "I am taking a fearful leap into the dark!"
