Introduction

Morning church.
2 Samuel 9 is where we will be.

Feels so good for me to be at North Campus for the first time. So, for the rest of the church, I send my
greetings from the truly leafy suburbs of Ro-Ro. It’s way less weird up here. Chains are cool. It’s way more
South Dallas that way. I like it. I am going to lunch at Applebees.

Starting next week, we have a short season of breaking away from this study to hear from some friends
from outside of our church in our summer series. Why do that?
-Gives our CP’s a rest from prep and preaching.
-Allows us to enjoy the common grace of varied gifting and voice.
-Gets us to see the faithfulness of God in the humble leadership of other churches who we love.

Today though, we are continuing in our study of the Life of David. (quick recap).

- In David we have an honest study of what it looks like to be a human loved by God.
- David is amazing in moments and terrible in others, but the golden thread of his life was the
covenant faithfulness and incredible love of God toward him.

Alright, 2 Samuel 9.

David is at his peak here. Scholars of his life see this as his highest point. He had captured all of the land
that the people had been promised as their possession for generations. He had driven out the enemies
of Israel and was living in (relative) peace for that time and place. He was the undisputed king over the
whole region, which was something that couldn’t be said earlier in his life and won’t be said again of him
later in his life. It really was looking good for King David, and it is in this highest moment of his life as
king that we see one the greatest examples of merciful love and godly grace we have from a human
