A few years ago, in the wee hours of the morning, South Carolina deputies were called to investigate a burglary at a small country store. The suspect only stole about $160 worth goods but caused about $2,500 worth of damages, knocking out the front door, kicking out the beer cooler and damaging other display shelves.

In his haste to abscond with his ill-gotten gain of beer, cigarettes, Slim Jims, energy drinks and other snack items the clumsy burglar managed to puncture two or three bags of Cheetos... which turned out to be his undoing. They were all over the parking lot. Crushed Cheetos could be seen where he parked his car. "The police followed a trail of Cheeto dust right to the house where the burglar was staying with a friend. As investigators approached the door of the house, they found...yep, you guessed it, more Cheetos.

As for the police work it was quick and simple. The case of the Cheeto bandit was quickly put to rest.

Numbers 32.23 says, "be sure your sin will find you out," especially if Cheetos are involved. (I added the last part. Cheetos are not in the Bible). Sin, like those dusty delicious Cheetos, even after they are gone, leaves behind a trail, a residue.

You can't run from it or hide it, not from God and not from yourself. You never escape your sin until you face it, own it, confess it, repent of it, and submit to the transforming work of God's Spirit in your heart.

That is a lesson 10 very hard-hearted brothers learn in our passage today. Joseph's brothers were not poster boys for what it means to live a Godly life filled with integrity.

They were sexually immoral, vindictive, murderous, hate-filled, and cruel men. That is not an exaggeration. I remind you...
