INTRODUCTION:

Commercial: What's in your wallet? What's in your wallet and how you spend your money says a lot about you! If we could go through your family's checks, we would read the story of your lives. What you value, how you live, what you save. In fact, you checkbook reveals more about your priorities and the seriousness of your relationship to God.

What does your checkbook have to say about your giving? Are you a generous giver, or do you just tip God a few dollars here and there. What does God's Word have to say about giving?
We will discover four principles of NT giving in our passage. Paul is writing to the Corinthians about giving a special offering to the Jewish Church.
Just what does he have to say?


I) GRACE GIVING IS AN INVESTMENT IN GOD'S KINGDOM -VS.6

The Biblical giver understands that giving is not just a contribution, but rather an investment. An investment from which we can anticipate a return.

To illustrate this concept Paul uses the image of sowing and reaping. That is, planting seed and gathering a harvest.

ILLUS: Uncle Thomas planted two acres of peas on one end of his sow bean field for me to pick and sell. Do you have any idea how many peas you can make on 2 acres? The rows were 100 yards long, by the time I got to the end of one, it was time to pick it again! A plentiful harvest!
The more seed you plant, the more peas you will harvest!
Your life is an investment. You are planting seed with every minute that you live. Your finances are only one part of this. How will you invest your life? What are you sowing? What investment are you making with your life?

Turn to Gal. 6:7-8 Whatever a man sows the same shall he reap.
