PROPOSITION: God's people should be people of praise.

INTRODUCTION:
What is Worship?

How can people as messed up and as sinful as you and I worship the Most Holy God of the universe?

What does real worship look like?

What should a worship service that takes seriously the commands of Scripture look like?
I) WORSHIP IS POSSIBLE ONLY THROUGH CHRIST- "Through Him"

Not just anyone can come into God's presence and offer up an acceptable sacrifice of praise. God's word makes it clear that only the person who is In Christ, saved and sealed by the Holy Spirt can offer acceptable worship to God.

Why? The truth is found in this phrase "Through Him."

A) THE REQUIREMENT FOR WORSHIP-
Psalm 24:3-4
Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD?
Or who may stand in His holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol,
Nor sworn deceitfully.

I don't know about you, but I see a problem. The problem is that I have sinned. My hands are not always clean and my heart doesn't always seem to be pure. How then can I praise God? In fact, how could anyone ever praise Him?

B) THE PROVISION FOR WORSHIP -Quite simply "Through Him". The key to understanding this is found in Ephesians 2:18
For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father.
Notice the word "access," In ancient times a related word was used to describe the court official who introduced people to the King-gave them access to the throne. You did not dare rush into the presence of the King uninvited. To attempt it would mean death. You needed someone to give you access to the King.

If you or I were to visit the President, someone would have to grant us access. Not just anyone can walk into the president's office.
