Isaiah 4:1-9
CIT - Isaiah is given a vision of the greatness of God.
Proposition - Christians today need a vision of God that will move them to holiness and mission.

INTRODUCTION:
I) A VISION OF GOD'S HOLINESS - VS. 1-4
In the year that King Uzziah died - This is a time of great crisis for Israel, and for the prophet.
Uzziah ruled Judah for 52 years. 2 Chronicles 26 tells us that he sought the Lord during his reign. He accomplished much. Yet, Uzziah failed. He disobeyed God and spent the last years of his life isolated as a leper.
For the prophet I think this symbolized the spiritual condition of the nation as a whole. Their hearts were far from God.
The crisis was also a political and military crisis. Assyria threatened God's people. "This is the beginning of a serious military threat that will eventually bring about the downfall of the northern kingdom, Israel, the destruction of the capital city of Samaria (along with many other cities of Israel and Judah) and the deportation of large segments of the population. The Assyrians are on the brink of establishing the empire that will dominate the ancient Near East for over a century1"
In this time of great crisis - God gives Isaiah a vision of God's holiness that will shape his ministry and approach to life.
A) HE SAW THE MAJESTY OF GOD - God's majesty is his greatness. He was seated on a throne, High and Lifted up.
Psalm 93:1-2 (ESV)
The Lord Reigns
93 The Lord reigns; he is robed in majesty;
the Lord is robed; he has put on strength as his belt.
Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved.
2 Your throne is established from of old;
you are from everlasting.
His Majesty reveals there is no limit to his power. God can and will accomplish all of his will.
