In Acts 4, Paul depicts to us a church that is in a time of refreshing, a state of revival, they are A CHURCH ON FIRE!! Briefly, we see three reasons why they were on fire:

I. PLACE THAT WAS SHAKEN (v. 31) One of the first characteristics of their revival, is that the place around them was shaken with the power of God. It was shaken b/c they were a:

A. SCRIPTURALY EXPECTED PEOPLE (v.31a) ''..and when they had prayed. . .' 1. This is one of the most notable characteristics of the early church. 2. They were a persecuted church, and a powerful church, they were also a PRAYING CHURCH!! ILLUSTRATION: c.f. Acts 1:14---Seeking God's face Acts 2:42---Still Praying Acts 3----Peter andamp; John on way to Prayer meeting 5000 converted Acts 4----First persecution--Peter/John in prison STILL PRAYING!! Acts 5---Still Praying---So many saved ''multitude' THEY REALIZED THAT PRAYER WAS THE BASIS FOR THEIR POWER!!!!! 3. Their prayer so touched God, that the place was shaken. c.f. Isaiah 6---Posts of the door at his prayer WHY NO REVIVAL? NO PRAYER!!!! Finney: ''Unless I had the spirit of prayer, I could do nothing.'' Spurgeon: ''Revival lies in knee work, knee work!'' 4. They didn't pray w/ certainty, but w/ expectancy. ...
