Jesus Needs Help Too
Brian Fletcher
John 5:16-30
Intro to Reading the Text
The passage we are reading this morning is an encounter that Jesus had with some Jews who were struggling to believe that Jesus was who he said he was. The text actually says "they were seeking all the more to kill him." In the verses just before what we are going to read, Jesus healed a man on the Sabbath. It's the story I preached on January 1st. Remember, it was about the man who had been an invalid for 38 years and Jesus healed him. But because he healed him on the Sabbath, the Jewish religious leaders were upset because you were not allowed to "work" on the Sabbath. - You are upset with Jesus
- You are highly skeptical of who he says he is
- You are so angry with Jesus that you want to kill him
- You also are extremely familiar with your Bible (the Old Testament) and you have probably memorized large portions of it.
- Listen with skepticism
So this is the mindset you have...Read passage John 5:16-30

Obviously, the whole of God's will, and what Jesus will do, has not been completely revealed yet. This all happens towards the beginning of Jesus' ministry. But the passage is definitely pointing to Jesus being the Messiah prophesied in the Old Testament, who will come and save God's people. We get this from t ...
