Matthew 4:1-11
Hard times are real. Temptation is real. The devil is real. - Everyone hear has been through difficulty. Everyone here has been tempted.
- Some of our difficulties are similar, some are different.
- Some of our temptation are similar, some of us are tempted a littler different.
- But at the end of the day ... we've all been tempted in various ways.
In fact, if you said to me ... "Josh I've never been tempted." - I'd say ... you must not be human. "Josh, I've never encountered a challenging time." Really? You must not be human. You must be a cyborg of some type. - These things are part of being human.
Here is the good news ... Jesus Christ can identify. - He's suffered. He's encountered difficult times. And yes ... He even encountered temptation.
The next two weeks we are going to be looking at the temptation of Jesus is Matthew 4:1-11. - It's a great an important passage. - It's critical to us understanding Jesus as our REPRESENTATIVE ... and as our ... EXAMPLE.
- Jesus LIVED & DIED IN OUR PLACE. Jesus also SHOWUS US HOW TO LIVE.
If you want to experience a victory in temptation ... you need to understand both those things. Today I want to introduce the text, lay a foundation and then build on that next week.
Matthew 4:1-11 - Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. 2 And after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3 And the tempter came and said to him, "If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become loaves of bread." 4 But he answered, "It is written, " 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.' "
