ILLUS. - Do you remember what the end of school was like around Christmas and around the end of the year? - Those last few days, exams had been taken ... you are just waiting out the clock ... nothing to study for, nothing pressing, you can just sort of go through the motions. During those times a lot of students probably aren't their best self, I'm sure I wasn't.
- It's like a football team that gets up 35 points in the first half .... and then they don't play well the second half. The focus is not there. They are going through the motions. They feel like they did what they came to do ... they are sort of losing direction.

Life can sort of be like that. - There can be a temptation to let our guard down after a big accomplishment ... or when we get into a stage of life where we feel we've accomplished what's been the focus of our attention for so long.
- Be aware of the things that can happen when kids move out, retirement approaches, or you feel like you've "peaked" in your career.

Sometimes we need to REFOCUS.

In 1 Kings 9 - Solomon has completed the temple and his palace. - He has experienced peace, prosperity, and accomplishment ... life has been GOOD for King Solomon.

1 Kings 9:1-9 - When Solomon had finished building the temple of the LORD and the royal
palace, and had achieved all he had desired to do, 2 the LORD appeared to him a second time, as he had appeared to him at Gibeon.

The situation: Solomon's temple and place took a total of 20 years to build, 7 for the temple and 13 for the palace. It's been noted it was 4 years in before he started the temple. At this point Solomon is at least 24 years into his 40 year reign. He is past the half way point.
