Ephesians 1:2-6, 2:18, 3:14-15, 4:6
Father - I quoted A.W. Tozer last week who said ... "What comes into your mind when you think about God is the most important thing about you."- Well when I say FATHER ... things come into your mind.
- You may think of your father ... that may be good or bad depending on personal experience.
- Some people struggle when they hear of God the Father ... because maybe someone impacted their idea of a "Father" through neglect, abuse, etc.
- Understand ... the idea of Father originates with God. - Don't let a man's failure as a father for instance shape how you view God as Father. Instead the truth of God the Father should shape how earthly father's view our role.
- What kind of father is God? He's a perfect, all powerful , wise, good Father.
As we gaze at the Triune God through the Scriptures today we look at God the Father.
- Remember ... there is ONE GOD. God eternally exists in THREE PERSONS. Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. - They are distinct, yet there is only one God. The Father is not the Son or the Spirit. The Son is not the Father or the Spirit. The Spirit is not the Father or the Son. Each are fully God ... but there is only one God. - We call this the TRINITY.
- God the Father is referred to as the FIRST PERSON of the Trinity.
Ephesians is a book that is rich with Trinitarian reference. Chapter one is a powerful picture of the Triune God's unified work in our conversion. Today I want to look primarily at Eph. 1:2-6 (along with some others) and we will bring in some other verses. - Today it is my hope for us to better understand the Father that we might respond to Him with the worship He is due.
Eph. 1:2-6 - Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, 4 even as he chose us in him before ...
