RESPECT FOR HUMAN LIFE (6 of 10)
Series: TEN
Steve Jones
Exodus 20:13

Series Summary: This is a sermon series on the Ten Commandments and their relevance for today.

Sermon Summary: 1) What this commandment protects. 2) What this commandment prescribes. 3) What this commandment prohibits.

Introduction:

An anarchist shakes his fist in the policeman's face and calls him an ugly name. A husband is so full of anger toward his wife that he beats her to death. A man seethes with hatred toward a person of a different race who has just sat down beside him on a bus. A motorist yells a nasty insult at a slow walking pedestrian.

Jesus said the devil "was a murderer from the beginning" (John 8:44). Even "good" men were killers: Moses (Exodus 2:12), David (2 Samuel 11:14ff), Saul of Tarsus (Acts 8:1; 9:1).

Now, many will immediately say, "but that is not who I am. I don't need to hear about this 6th commandment. I have never committed murder- and never will!" (Before going further, I will ask these folks to read Jesus words in Matthew 5:21-22. I will say more about th ...
