This is a message about something lost and found. We all lose things. Sometimes it's temporary. Sometimes it's permanent. Our car keys, our checkbook, some very important paper. Or in this day and age, our cell phone! I used to lay my glasses down and then have trouble finding them because---I didn't have my glasses on! Or horror of all horrors, the remote control gets lost! That's a real emergency! Call 911!

Did you hear about the elderly lady who was asked by her minister if she ever thought about the hereafter. "All the time," she said, "Why just this morning I walked from the kitchen to the bedroom. (If your place is like our park model, that might be a total of about three feet.) As soon as I got to the bedroom, I said to myself, "What am I hereafter?" Yes, I think about the hereafter all of the time!"

In our story today, the last people you would expect lost the last thing you would expect in the last place you would expect. The people of God lost the Word of God in the House of God. Think about that one for a minute! The people of God lost the Word of God in the House of God. I am here to warn you that if it could happen once, it can happen again!

2 Kings 22:1-13 (Cf. 2 Chronicles 34-35)

They found the Book of the Law somewhere in the temple. And they'd didn't even know it was missing. If we can translate that into our setting, they lost the Bible at church. And if that doesn't wake you up, note this. Business didn't stop at the temple. The wheels of religion just kept on turning. Religion didn't come to a grinding halt-when the people of God lost the Word of God in the House of God!

Now obviously, what I want us to think about today is not what happened then. I am more concerned about what can happen now. Is it possible for the people of God to lose the Word of God in the House of God today? I recognize the situation is not exactly the same. We are not just talk ...
