My Story and His Story

Today I want to share my story and his story. I want to state in the clearest way I can what we who are followers of Jesus want to share with our friends and neighbors who don't yet know him. Our story and his story together form our testimony to those that the Lord brings across our path. Consider both stories with me today:
Let me tell you my story. Like many of you, Christ came into my life when I was a youngster. My parents and my younger brother and I had moved to a farm just outside a small rural Illinois community a few years earlier. We hadn't gone to church much before we moved-at least that I can remember. But in the new town and with new neighbors, we started attending a church in the nearby village. I can still remember the Sunday school classes and some of my early teachers-Betty Zehr and Gladys Bartley among others. I can recall some of the children's songs we sang and the cookies we had for refreshments every Sunday. Ah...the cookies!
But I can most clearly remember the day the evangelist called in our home to talk with my parents and me about our relationship with Christ. He sat in the corner of the living room of that old farm house and laid his open bible on the footstool. He very kindly and clearly began to explain the story of Jesus to us. We already knew some of what he told us. But he showed us how it fit together. My parents listened carefully. But it really didn't make any difference to me if they did or not. I knew he was talking to me.
He explained that God created me and loved. He had his eye on me my entire life. But I hadn't always loved him back. Sometimes I ignored him, pretended he didn't exists. Other times, I disobeyed his commands. In short, I was a sinner. If I remained on that path, I was lost, without God, and without hope. But the God who loved me, offered me a different path.
