Matthew 2:1-12

Tonight, I'll read to you one of my favorites, "O' Come All Ye Faithful."
- It was originally written in Latin and titled "Adeste Fideles" by John Francis Wade has the earliest written copy of it (1742) and has been considered the author by some. All though it has been noted he may have just been a copyist to it not the original composer. The most original author may not be known. - It was translated in English by Frederick Oakley.

Lyrics to O Come All Ye Faithful:
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant; come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem; come and behold Him, born the King of angels:
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation; sing all ye bright hosts of heav'n above; glory to God, all glory in the highest:
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning; Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv'n; Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing:
Refrain: O come, let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord.

This carol invites us to respond to the birth of Christ by beholding & ADORING HIM.
- WHO JESUS IS DEMANDS A RESPONSE. Jesus should be ADORED.

This carol invites us to be faithful, joyful, triumphant ... for the King has been born. It reminds us of his humble birth in Bethlehem and His being King.
- It invites the angels to sing ... "Glory to God in the highest."
- It reminds us that Jesus due all glory ... for He is the Word made flesh as John 1 points out. - That passage is John 1 is one of the many that points to the DEITY of Christ.

I love the repeated refrain ... "O come let us adore Him, Christ, the Lord."
- Adore can mean "love, respect, or worship."

In Matthew 2:1-12 we have the story of the WISE MEN coming to visit Jesus. - In this passage we see responses to Jesus and His birth ... some like the wisemen are admirable, others are not. This passage should encourage us to ADORE HIM.

Matt. 2:1-12 - Now after Jesus was born in Bet ...
