The Ultimate Sacrifice
Roger Thomas
Genesis 22:1-19
In honor of Mother's Day, I want to share a personal word. My mother passed away over twenty years ago. I wish you could have known her. She was the youngest of a dozen siblings, never finished high school (but she would be quick to tell you that she did get her GED when she was in her fifties because she always wanted to!). She was a farm wife who much of the time worked a job off the farm to help make ends meet. She was strong-willed, hot tempered, and relentless in standing up for her three boys if she thought they had been wronged. She loved her family and the Lord. Like many of you, my mother taught me some of the most important lessons in life. For example . . . .
10. My mother taught me Logic: Her answer to Why was always Because I said so, that's why.
9. My mother taught me Foresight: Make sure you wear clean underwear, in case you're in an accident.
8. My mother taught me about Time Travel: If you don't straighten up, I'm going to knock you into the middle of next week!
7. My mother taught me Irony: Keep laughing and I'll give you something to cry about.
6. My mother taught me the science of Osmosis: Shut your mouth and eat your supper.
5. My mother taught me how to be a contortionist: Will you look at the dirt on the back of your neck.
4. My mother taught me To Appreciate A Job Well Done: If you're going to kill each other, do it outside; I just finished cleaning.
3. My mother taught me about Behavior Modification: Stop acting like your father.
2. My mother taught me about Religion: You better pray that will come out of the carpet.
1. And the Number 1 lesson my mother taught me-She taught me about the Circle of Life; I brought you into this world, and I can take you out.
Mothers, grandmothers, as well as aunts and sisters who have helped mother the next generation, we salute you and appreciate you today.
. . .
Now for today's teaching from God's Word. . . . One ancien ...
