Psalm 23

Walking Among the Giants....A few years ago, Joyce and I were in Northern California on business with a free weekend to spare. We decided to take a day trip to the Big Basin Redwoods State Park near Santa Cruz. We will never forget what we saw. Some of you have undoubtedly seen the giant trees of California. To call them big is an understatement. The oak and hickory that we have around here are mere shrubs in comparison. Some of the redwoods soar two to three hundred feet into the air. The trunks can be as big across as this room. Some sprouted long before Christ walked the earth! Think about that! The natural response of anyone walking among these giants is quiet awe. Even normally rowdy children grow silent in a redwood grove.

That is the same response that most of have to certain passages of scripture. Such certain passages stand so tall that we are silenced in their presence. When we come to those parts of the Bible, we know that we are walking among the giants.

I invite you to join me on a walk among the giants, not trees but passages of scripture. Each week for the next few Sundays, we will take look at passages that are on almost everyone's list of favorites. I am confident we will touch one or two of your favorites.

As we walk among these giants, you will hear much that is familiar. For some this will be a journey down memory lane. You will also likely be reminded of some truths that have fallen to the way side. You may also discover a few bits of gold that you have walked right past. Let's begin our walk among the giants with a passage on everyone's list of favorites . . . Psalm 23:1-6.
