The Consecration of Priests

Leviticus 8:1-36
Years ago, my wife and children went on a vacation to Philadelphia and New York City. Our twin sons were teenagers at the time and went traveled to the northeastern part of the country to see our favorite NFL team, the Washington Redskins (Commanders) to play the Philadelphia Eagles. Actually we got in two NFL games that weekend. We saw the Giants play the Bears on Saturday and on Sunday we saw the Commanders play the Eagles. Oh, we went to Tenth Presbyterian Church on Sunday morning, because I wanted to hear James Montgomery Boice preach. We went to an early service and by 1:00 we were in our seats in the stadium waiting for the kickoff. The Washington team came back in the fourth quarter from a three-touchdown deficit and won the game for an amazing victory.
However, during the whole game all I could think about was "What is a preacher doing at a professional football game on Sunday?" You see, I grew up in a very conservative home and my mother frowned on fishing, playing ball and the like on Sundays, because it was supposed to be a day of rest. It was the first time I could recall watching a football game in person on a Sunday and I could not help but wonder if I was doing something outside the bounds of my calling, if I was behaving as a Christian, and in particular, if I was behaving as a preacher should.
You have got to know who you are and what you are before you can behave as you should and act accordingly. So, did you know that if you are a child of God, you are also a priest. You may not have a priestly robe or offer animal sacrifices on an altar, but you are a priest. Being a priest demands a lot of a believer - godliness, service, surrender, and leadership.
