Within every man there is a God-shaped vacuum. A study of anthropology reveals that enthroned in every man's heart is a god whom he worships Even among aboriginal tribes in the remote comers of the earth there are rites of worship.

Undoubtedly, the god revered by many is a false god; nevertheless, every man worships something or someone. Oftentimes when man dethrones God, he deifies himself. Only the fool says, "There is no god" (Ps 14:1). However, those who know the true and living God desire fellowship with Him. The child of God wants to enter into the presence of the Heavenly Father. The psalmist said, "As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God" (Ps 42:1). David declared, "O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is" (Ps 63:1). Paul expressed a desire for intimate fellowship with the Lord (Phil 3:10).

The first man of creation had personal access to the majesty of God. Before the forbidden tree had yielded its fateful fruit and before the tempter had touched the world, Adam had the joyful experience of entering into the presence of the Lord and fellowshipping with Him on an intimate basis.

Both Adam and Eve had apparently come to enjoy a close, personal relationship with God. It was not uncustomary for God to walk about the Garden of Eden in the cool of the day. That first couple recognized the very voice of God. They rejoiced in every opportunity to commune with Him.

When by disobedience sin entered into the world, everything changed. After trespassing the command of God, Adam and Eve hid themselves from His presence. Consequently, the Lord God, who cannot even bear to look upon sin, bolted the door of access into the glory of His presence.
