Eschatology or End Time Theology
J. Gerald Harris
Overview of Revelation

A nervous young preacher was preaching his first sermon. His topic was the Second Coming of Christ. He quoted from Revelation 22. He ran toward the edge of the platform and said with great enthusiasm, "Behold, I come quickly!" But he lost his train of thought and didn't know what to say next. So, he just ran forward again and said, "Behold, I come quickly!" He still couldn't remember what to say next, so he tried it again, but with more force. He stepped forward and said, "Behold, I come quickly!" But he tripped on a cord and lost his balance. He fell right into the lap of an old deacon who was sitting on the first pew. The young preacher said, "Sir, I'm so sorry!" The deacon said, "Don't worry about it, son. You warned me three times that you were coming.

The Rapture and the Judgment Seat of Christ

What I want to do this morning is give you a sketch of what will happen after the rapture, when Jesus comes in the air to take the dead and living believers into glory. You can read about that in I Thessalonians 4:13-18 and I Corinthians 15: 51-54. When we are received up into glory all Christians will appear before the judgment seat of Christ. At the judgment seat of Christ all believers will be rewarded for good works and faithful service during their time on earth or will lose rewards, but not eternal life.

If you have served God faithfully with your time, talents, gifts, and witness and if you have done those things for God's glory and not for your own self-satisfaction and glory your works will be tried by fire and will come forth as gold, silver, and precious stones. If you have not served the Lord effectively or if you have served Him only to receive man's approval and enhance your own resume then your works will be tested by fire and will come forth as wood, hay, and stubble. Look in I Corinthians 3:11-15 and II Corinthians 5:10 is another passage that confirms that.
