Taught by The Spirit (4 of 5)

John 14:23-29
Today's Scripture is once again from the Gospel of
John. It's part of what we sometimes call Jesus'
farewell message to his disciples. This is the part of
the John's Gospel where Jesus prepares the disciples
for his death, resurrection, and ascension into
Heaven. In today's Scripture Jesus tells the disciples
that they will soon have a new teacher - the Holy
Spirit. If we are going to follow the Risen Lord we,
like the disciples, we need to be taught by the
Spirit. Listen for the Word of God.

Holy Spirit "the Advocate" which means someone who
stands at our side to help us. Other translations use
the words "Comforter" or "Friend". Jesus leaves, but
he does not leave us alone. The Father sends the Holy
Spirit who comes in Jesus' Name to continue Jesus'
ministry.
The Spirit keeps pointing us back to Jesus. The Spirit
shows us the full meaning of what Jesus has taught us.
The Spirit helps us remember everything that Jesus has
said and done for us. In other words, the Holy Spirit
keeps the reality of Jesus ever before his presence
and us alive within us.
{25} "I have said these things to you while I am still
with you. {26} But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom
the Father will send in my name, will teach you
everything, and remind you of all that I have said to
you.
What does it mean to be taught by the Holy Spirit?
Well, let me suggest that, in the first place,
learning about God is very different than learning
about the stock market, or about the latest scores
from the world of sports, or about the weather. You
can learn about all these things without it ever
touching your spirit. Most of the things we learn
about in life don't chang ...
