Slaying Our Shame (4 of 4)
Series: Empty! This Changes Everything (An Easter Series)

John 21:1-25
We're in our final week in this series titled "Empty! This Changes Everything." We're focusing on the time between Jesus' resurrection from the grave and His ascension into heaven. During those days, Jesus encountered each disciple and seemingly had a life-changing effect on them and their ministry. We've been learning how Jesus, through the work of the cross, delivers us from our sin, sorrow and second guessing, as we looked at last week through the life of Thomas, and from our lack-luster service we looked at a couple weeks ago.
Today we focus our time on looking at how Jesus delivers us and changes our shame into restoration and an ability to serve Him. We'll be looking at the life of Peter, the famous disciple, and how we can slay our shame like he did. Let's turn our attention to God's Word as we read John 21:1-25. We'll read the entire chapter, then ask a blessing on our time together.

So they went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing.
4 Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. 5 He called out to them, "Friends, haven't you any fish?" "No," they answered.
6 He said, "Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some." When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. 7 Then the disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, "It is the Lord," he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water. ...
