The Truth That Sets You Free (60 of 70)
And The Word Became Flesh
John 8:21-36
Pastor Jeff Schreve
If you have your Bible, please turn to John chapter 8. We're going through the gospel of John verse by verse, and want to talk about The Truth that Sets You Free.
Now, I was a student at the University of Texas from 1980 to 1984. One of the landmarks at the University of Texas is the Texas Tower. I have a picture of the University of Texas Tower. And whenever we win a game, they light up the Tower orange. Whenever we win the national championship, which is not very often, they put a big Number One on there. Whenever I passed a test, they would light up the Tower orange. Not really. That thing is 307 feet above ground. It was built in the 1930's. And it's a big, big landmark for the University of Texas. I let him know pretty early that I was a believer. But what's written on the Tower is John 8:32, "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free." Now, that was a good way at the University of Texas to witness to college students. Just say, "Do you know what is written on the Tower? Do you know what that means?" And I venture to say almost none of the students know what that means from John chapter 8, verse 32. But did you know that many church goers, regular church goers don't really know what that means, either? "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free (or make you free.") We know the words, but we don't necessarily know the meaning. And wh ...
