If you have your Bible, please turn to John, chapter 5. We've started a series on the gospel of John back last year, and we're going through verse by verse. And so, we haven't gotten really far, but we're in chapter 5. We want to look at a message I've entitled The Four Resurrections.

Now, Benjamin Franklin, who was a founding father, lived from 1706 to 1790, toward the end of his life, he wrote out his own epitaph. Benjamin Franklin wasn't known as a Christian. He believed in prayer, he believed in God, but there's no evidence that he had a personal relationship with Christ. But this is what he wrote: "Here lies the body of B. Franklin, printer. Like the cover of an old book, its contents torn out and stripped off of its lettering and gilding, lies here, food for worms. But the word shall not be wholly lost, for it will, as he believed, appear once more in a new and more perfect, perfect edition, corrected and amended by the author." Now that is Ben Franklin. As far as we know, not a born-again believer, but he believed in a resurrection.

When the apostle Paul was on trial before Governor Felix in Acts, chapter 24, Governor Felix, he said these words: "There shall certainly be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked." You know, the Bible is crystal clear on the fact that every single person is going to be resurrected one day. The Bible says, "God has fixed a day in which He will judge the world in righteousness through a man whom He has appointed, having furnished proof to all men by raising Him from the dead."

So Jesus, in John, chapter 5, is in trouble. You'll find in the gospel accounts Jesus is always in trouble with the religious elite because He didn't play ball the way they wanted Him to.
