If you have your Bible, please turn to John, chapter 4. We want to look at a very important passage of Scripture. Many of you know the song that we often sing in church. It's an adaptation of the old hymn, "Holy, Holy, Holy." It was written in 1861 by a man named Reginald Heber. But we sing the song, "Holy, Holy, Holy, Savior and King." The lyrics are: "Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee; Holy, Holy, Holy, merciful and mighty! God in Three Persons, blessed Trinity!" That's just from the hymn. Then it says, "Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore Thee; Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea; Cherubin and seraphim falling down before Thee, which wert and art and evermore shall be. Holy, Holy, Holy, man hath fallen from Thee. Through the blood of Christ Thy Son, Thy soul can be redeemed. Justice, truth, and mercy join with love to crown Thee. Savior of sinners, soon returning King." As I was reading John 4, that line, "Savior of sinners," really started to resonate in my heart.

John wrote his gospel. He tells us why he wrote in John, chapter 20, verse 31, "But these things have been written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, and that believing you may life in His name." So, the whole purpose of the gospel of John is to present Jesus so that you would see that He is the Christ, and you would put your faith and trust in Him and have life in His name. Everything he does points to that purpose.

John, chapter 4 is such a powerful chapter that shows that Jesus is the Savior of sinners because it deals with a woman who was a terrible sinner, a total outcast of a sinner. Warren Wiersbe in his commentary calls this Samaritan woman, "the bad Samaritan." We're very familiar with the story of the good Samaritan. Well, here's the story of the bad Samaritan, and it shows that Jesus is the Savor of sinn ...
