If you have your Bible, please turn to John chapter 10. We want to talk tonight about The Good Shepherd.

I heard a story about a lady. She was blonde, and she was tired of all the blonde jokes that were going around. And so, she said, "I'm going to do something about this." So, she got some hair dye, and she dyed her hair brown, just to get away from all these blonde jokes that she was hearing. And she got in her car, and she started driving. She drove through the countryside. She came upon a shepherd who had his sheep there, and she stopped, and she said to the shepherd, "Hey, if I can guess the number of sheep that you have in your fold here, will you let me have one of them? If I guess the exact number, will you let me have one of them?" He said, "Okay, we can do that." She said, "One hundred and seventy-one." He was shocked. That was the exact number of sheep that he had. He said, "I can't believe this. You got it right. Okay, well, I'll hold up my end of the bargain. You can pick out one that you want." And so, she looked and looked and looked and looked. And, finally, she got the one she wanted. She picked it up, carrying it back to her car. She got situated in her car. He came and followed her, and he said to her, "I have a question for you. If I can guess the real color of your hair, can I have my dog back?" I used to have blonde hair, so I can tell the blonde jokes.

John chapter 10 is all about the shepherd and the sheep. You know, that is a familiar metaphor and word of imagery in the Bible. We know that all the patriarchs were shepherds. Abraham was a shepherd. Isaac was a shepherd. Jacob, a shepherd. We know that the two greatest leaders of God's people in the Old Testament, Moses and David, they were both shepherds.
