If you have your Bible, please turn to John chapter 20. We asked this question sometime ago in staff meeting, "If you could only have one book of the Bible - let's make it a little more narrow - one book of the Old Testament on a desert island for the rest of your life, what book would you want that to be?" Many of us said the Book of Psalms. Psalms, 150 chapters; Psalms covers the gamut of emotions. Psalms is the Hebrew song book. Did you know that Jesus, in His earthly ministry, quoted more from Psalms than any other book of the Old Testament? Psalms is a great book. And in the Book of Psalms, we read these words in Psalm 30: "You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, that my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever." From mourning to dancing! The Scripture says, "Weeping may last for a moment, but a shout of joy comes in the morning."
So, for the disciples, for those who love Jesus and those who are true to Jesus, lots of tears. Those tears began on Thursday night. Jesus had that special time with His disciples, and then He told them, "One of you is going to betray Me." And that one was Judas. The disciples didn't understand that, but it was Judas. "One of you is going to betray Me." That is bad news. Then He's saying, "I'm going away." That is terrible news. Then He says to Peter, the leader of the disciples, "You're going to deny Me." "One is going to betray, one is going to deny, I'm going away." They didn't understand all that stuff. Then He was arrested at the Garden of Gethsemane. And then He is abused and beaten. And then He is delivered to Pilate. And then He is whipped and scourged and sentenced to crucifixion. And they're seeing all this, and it is heartbreaking, heart-shattering, faith shattering. This is the One they thought was the Me ...
