Hebrews 4:14-16
When I was in college, I got to know a guy at church. He was a few years older than I was, but he had been in the military, and he was starting his degree and finishing at the University of Texas. We played basketball together. We played softball together. His name was Ron Moore. I always called him Moore Ron (Moron). That was kind of his nickname. We were talking one day, just college guys, and we were talking about the struggles that we faced as red-blooded college guys and talking about the issue of lust. And I'll never forget what he said. He told me, "Yeah, I broke down and I went to see the movie, Ten." You know, that was the movie with Bo Derek. And back in the early 80's Bo Derek was a 10! She's a little older now. And so, somebody once said, "What is 10, 9, 8, 7, 6? It's Bo Derek aging." So, I don't know where she'd be today, but in the early 80's she was in the movie, Ten. She was a 10. My friend, Ron, said, "You know, I knew I shouldn't have seen that movie because it put all this stuff in my mind and in my heart." "When lust is conceived, it gives birth to sin. And when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death." He said, "You know, when I let myself go and lust and look at things I shouldn't look at, do things I shouldn't do," he said, "I just feel so filthy, so dirty." And he said, "And I can't pray! I can't go to the Lord in prayer! I just feel like there's no way. I'm just alienated from God because of what I've done."
You know, I think every Christian can relate to that feeling. You do something you know you shouldn't do. You do it, anyway. You know, here's how the devil works on us: He'll say, "Well, you know you want to. You know you want to. You know you want to." That's how temptation works. "God will forgive you. You know you want to. God will forgive you." And then, you do it, ...
