Every sports fan knows the name John Wooden. John Wooden was the legendary coach of the UCLA Bruins. He was probably, without question, the greatest college basketball coach in the history of college basketball, probably the greatest basketball coach in the history of basketball, and maybe even the greatest coach in the history of sports. John Wooden's teams in a 12-year period won 10 national championships in college basketball, 7 in a row. He had a streak going for 7 years, from 1966 to 1972, where his teams won 205 games and lost 5. It is pretty amazing. And the players that talk about John Wooden - he died at the age of 99, the players that talk about him say, you know, it wasn't just the basketball that we learned from him, although, obviously, a great basketball coach, they said, "It was the life lessons we learned from John Wooden."

You know, Wooden was a believer in the Lord Jesus. Wooden said this: "There is only one kind of life that truly wins, and that is the one that places faith in the hands of the Savior." He was an outspoken Christian, and he didn't allow anyone to use profanity on his team. That would get you kicked out of practice if you used any profanity. His assistant coach said, "I've been around John Wooden. I was around John Wooden in the tense moments of basketball games. I never one time heard him utter a word of profanity." When Wooden would get mad, he would say this: "Goodness gracious, sakes alive!" And his players said, "You want to know what it's like to be cussed out with a mid-western cussing? It's John Wooden telling you, 'Goodness gracious, sakes alive!" One guy said, "I played overseas. I've been cussed out in five different languages. But there's nothing that was more powerful than John Wooden saying to me, 'Goodness gracious, sakes alive!'" You knew that you really messed up w ...
