Acts 4:1-31
If you have your Bible, please turn to Acts chapter 4. We're in a series called Soldiers of the Cross. Last week we talked about the Discipline of a Good Soldier. And this week we want to talk about the Courage of a Good Soldier. You know, the Bible tells us that we are soldiers of the Lord Jesus Christ. Second Timothy chapter 2 and verse 3 Paul says to Timothy, "Suffer hardship with me as a good soldier of Christ Jesus."
Now, in order to be a good soldier, you have to be disciplined, and you have to have courage. You can't be a good soldier if you are a coward. Winston Churchill, the great Prime Minister of England during World War II said this: "Courage is the most important of the virtues because it's the one virtue that makes all the others possible." Courage! You know, it's interesting, Revelation 21 and 22 speaks of the eternal state. Everyone has been judged. And now it's the believers in heaven, and it talks about the glories of heaven and how those who overcome will inherit these things, and God will wipe every tear from their eye. And then it says in Revelation 21:8, it gives a list of eight classifications of sinners who are going to miss out. Their part is going to be in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone. And it talks about murderers. It talks about abominable people. It talks about sorcerers and idolaters. But the number one classification on the list, the first one mentioned, "But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable persons, and murderers and idolaters and immoral people, and sorcerers, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone..." The cowardly!
Now, the Bible makes it clear that when God saves a person, He saves that person and gives that person not a spirit of fear, but of power and love and discipline. Second Timothy 1:7 in the God's Word version says, "God didn't give us a cowardly spir ...
