1 Chronicles 4:9-10
Inside of each of us... I believe there are 3 people:
1. The person you are right now
2. The person you could become-if you allowed Satan to rule your life.
3. The person you could become-if you allowed God to rule your life.
Today we're going to talk about a man in the Bible, that I believe demonstrates for us... the person we could be... if we'd just surrender... and let God... be God... in our lives. And we're going to read about this man today from the book of 1st Chronicles.
When you open your Bible and start walking through the book of 1 Chronicles... it won't take you before you realize... this is not the most exciting portion of Scripture to read. In fact, in the first 9 chapters-it's primarily just a list of names-over 500 names at that.
But about half-way through these chapters, (44 names into chapter 4)... the author (who most believe was Ezra) introduces us to a man named Jabez.
Now, there are very few details that we actually know about the life of Jabez. For instance, we don't know what he looked like, or what he did for a living. We can assume he lived in southern Israel... and we know he was born into the tribe of Judah... but beyond that, we don't have much information at all.
But what we do know, comes from 2 short verses in [1 Chronicles chapter 4].
9 Jabez was more honored than his brothers. His mother named him Jabez and said, "I gave birth to him in pain."
So, let's start from the top. What do we know about Jabez? We know about...
- His name was a handicap
I remember, many years ago, when Audra was pregnant. Before we even knew if we were having a boy or a girl, we would talk about potential names for our soon-to-be son or daughter... and as we had those discussion, there were several names that had potential... but there was also a list of names that we knew-we would never name our child. We knew-our daughter would never ...
