What does the Bible say about love and sex?
Last week I said the Bible teaches that true love waits until it really knows how to love before it engages another sexually. We looked at the Apostle Paul's words in 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5. There Paul explains that sexual morality is necessary so that we don't end up wronging and hurting one another, especially those we claim to love.
That sermon ended on a note of warning. But the Bible doesn't just warn us about sex, the Bible also celebrates sex as a gift from God. This is the direction for today's sermon. I don't believe the church should just warn and worry people about sex. I believe the church should affirm and celebrate the joys of married love, including the joy of sex.
This is one reason why teenagers don't listen to the church when it comes to sex. Far too often all they hear from the church is that sex is dangerous and forbidden. They don't hear the about the positive, wondrous side of sex as a gift from God. The result is that they decide that church or Christian adults don't have a clue about what they're feeling when they are full of passion and yearning for intimacy. So they turn to friends, television, and the movies to learn about their sexuality.
The Bible celebrates sex. The Bible is amazed by sex. The Bible ponders the mystery of sex.
