John 20:19-23
Please take God's Word in your hands and turn to John 20:19-23. We are in the middle of a series we've entitled "Empty! This Changes Everything." We're looking at the change that has taken place in the lives of various participants on that first Easter, all because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We'll learn how we might be changed through their examples of responding to this truth as well, even though we are now 2,000 years set apart from that time. The gospel of Jesus Christ-that He died, was buried and resurrected from the grave-is still a message that changes every bit of who we are and can give us hope and joy in a world of trouble and pain.

19 On the evening of that first day of the week, when the disciples were together, with the doors locked for fear of the Jewish leaders, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you!" 20 After he said this, he showed them his hands and side. The disciples were overjoyed when they saw the Lord.
21 Again Jesus said, "Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you." 22 And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit. 23 If you forgive anyone's sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven."
It seems in our world today that the slogans "new and improved" or "extra strength" or "more powerful formula" seem to be in vogue. Whether it's medication, , super absorbent paper towels, laundry detergent or the latest in long-lasting batteries, we are always looking for a new formula, a new way to go to a new level with all the activities of life. We want to be new and improved. We want to see something better than we used to have just weeks or months before.
Now what about our Christian service, our ministry, our work for Christ? Do we ever look back and say what used to be in the past does n ...
