Today, we're in Hebrews 11, and we're going to talk about 'Leaving a Legacy of Faith'. A legacy is that which is passed on to the next generation. The truth is we're all leaving a legacy; the question is what kind? The greatest and most lasting impact you will make on this world (good or bad) won't be done while you live; it will be done after you die.

Jonathon Edwards was a Puritan preacher who shook New England for Christ. His most famous sermon was 'Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God'. He did much for God's Kingdom while he was alive, but his family tree shows he did even more after he died. How? Through the legacy he left.

Of his 729 descendants that could be traced: 300 were preachers, 66 were doctors, 30 were judges, 65 were college professors, 13 were university presidents, 3 were city majors, 3 were state governors, 3 were U.S. senators, and one was Vice-President of the United States. Most, if not all, were Christ followers.

For better or for worse, your life and your faith will amplified and multiplied through the generations that follow you. What kind of legacy are you building right now that will be passed on to your children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren? You might say, 'Oh, I don't think much about that. I work hard to leave them some money after I'm gone, but the rest they will have to figure out on their own just like I did.'

Listen, don't just leave something TO your children, leave something IN them. The greatest thing you can leave IN your children and grandchildren is the understanding that the most important thing in life is to know, love, and serve the Lord Jesus Christ. That is leaving a legacy of faith. We know this has always been God's heart and desire:
