A Godly "Hello"
Jerry N Watts
Eph 1:1-3
- For the next couple of months, our time will be given to the Book in the Bible we know at Ephesians. My desire is NOT to offer you an academic study or critical study of this book, rather a textual and applicable, maybe, better said, a practical look at these words. We'll take a couple of Months.
- How do you say "Hello?" Hi, hello, how's you doing, etc. When you write a letter (you remember those), you begin with "Dear ____", "Dear Sir/Maam", or "To Whom it may concern".
- Paul begins his letter in the style of his day. He ids himself, his readers, and who he's representing. I'm call this "A Godly Hello" because it reminds us of the greatness of God. Remember throughout this study, that Paul is writing to those who profess to be Christ-followers. In the midst of opposition, they were standing on the name of Christ. The first 3 Chapter are more theological in nature and the Last 3 are practical.
- Verses 1-3. Paul's Letter is about God riches to US and His gift(s) to us.
- W. Wiersbe's book on Ephesians is entitled "BE RICH." Let's make this as simple as possible as he simply, yet clearly writes the words that they will remember while reading the letter.
1. A MIRACULOUS INTRODUCTION - V1a Why would I call this intro 'miraculous?' Let me offer several reasons. First, just know that the Bible (complete) is a book of the miraculous. If you don't believe in the miraculous, then you don't believe in the Bible and thus, not what the Bible can do OR what the ultimate writer of the Bible (God Himself) is capable of. To read God's word without a miracle working God is to miss the ultimate truth found here. But secondly, the jumping out miracle here is "PAUL". Paul is a walking miracle. From Pharisee to Prophet, Persecutor to Preaching, from destroyer of the faith to defender of the faith, the miracle is stark. That Saul of Tarsus could write God's words is almost unthinkable.
