Introduction
Crazy to think this Sunday marks six months now for the Edwards family at Chesapeake! It just feels like time has flown, and that is, no doubt, in part to just how you all have so welcomed not just into the church but into your lives. We can't thank you enough! One example, though, came here on a Sunday, one of our first weeks here.
It was in between services and my kids came to come meet at the back of the auditorium and say hello. (Most Sundays I'm gone out the house before they wake up) I mean I like to think I get here pretty early on Sundays but let me tell you this awesome team of volunteers puts me to shame, and so, because most of the folks here haven't had any breakfast, we have a small little spread of fruits and bagels and juice of the sorts for the teams. Oh, and usually donuts because we know how nutritious that is for a tired body.
So, my kids are standing beside me when one of the staff members comes up to them and is like, "Hey do you guys want some donuts? We have lots this morning." The kids looked at me, of course, for approval, and off they went. Now what I haven't told you yet is that the room where all this food is, is actually underneath the stage. So, you have to wind your way through the dark stage, down some very ominous stairs into what looks like it'll be a dungeon until you turn the corner and see the whole room.
Well, as we're all walking Aiden starts getting nervous and he asks me, 'Dad, are we allowed to be down here?' I say, of course. But in his defense it totally looks like, at this point, there we're going somewhere where we really probably shouldn't be, so he asks again, 'Are you sure?' I say yes, again. And then he stops altogether and says, 'Dad, never mind. I don't want to get in trouble.' At this point I'm starting to get annoyed, even though I should be proud of my son wanting to respect the place and just not trespass in general. But inst ...
