DO RIGHT: YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH OTHERS
Hebrews 13:1-4
The chapter in the book of Hebrews which is different from all the other chapters.
Before we look at it I want us to look at a passage in Timothy, if you would turn
with me left from Hebrews to 11 Timothy, chapter number 4. II Timothy, chapter
number 4. Let us bow for prayer as we begin.
Father, we thank you for your word that is indeed a two-edged sword.
Thank you Father that it cuts, that it pierces all the way to the sinew of our
mind and our hearts and our spirits. Lord, speak today to us, clearly and
directly. Let me get out of the way so that Thy word and Thy truth might be
heard, received, understood. And, Father, give us your strength, touched by
your Spirit to put in practice that which we hear from You, is our prayer
through Jesus Christ, our living Lord. Amen.
Paul is writing to his protege Timothy about his ministry. And he's telling Timothy
what is going to happen in the future and he's giving him specific and direct
instructions about how he is to live. We see this in this fourth chapter of 11
Timothy. Paul says to young Timothy, "I solemnly charge you in the presence of
-2-
God and of Jesus Christ who is to judge the living and the dead and by his
appearing and his kingdom."
He says to Timothy in verse 2;
"Preach the word. Be ready in season and out of season."
This means any time, any where, any place. Then he says;
"Reprove, rebuke, exhort with great patience and instruction."
And then verse 3,he has a prophetic word;
For the time will come when they will not endure - sound doctrine - but
wanting to have their ears tickled they will accumulate for themselves
teachers in accordance with their own desires. And will turn away from
their ears, the truth. And will turn aside to myths. For you, Timothy, be
sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist. Fulfill
your ministry."
