BEHIND EVERY GREAT MAN
Hebrews 11:32
Today we look only at verse 32 - Hebrews 11, verse 32. Let's bow for prayer as we
begin our study together.
Father, your grace is astounding, staggering, and never ceases to be amazing!
Thank you for forgiving us, for forgiving us, for forgiving us, and for forgiving
us. We come into this place of grace and mercy today, seeking a word from
You. Lord, You speak and let me get out of the way so that Thy word and Thy
word alone might be heard, it might be received, it might be understood, and,
Lord, it might be incorporated into our lifestyles. For we make this prayer in the
strong, saving name of Jesus our Lord and our Savior. Amen.
Hebrews 11, I think all of us know now, is the Hall of Fame of Faith. It tells about the
men and women who have run the race of faith. And in studying Hebrews 11 we
have a definition. I wonder if you would repeat it after me. Faith is.... confident
obedience... to the word of God.... regardless of consequences.... or circumstances.

Now as we look at all these personalities in Hebrews 11, they are different. My how
different they are! There are priests and prophets and farmers and prostitutes and son
of prostitutes. There are kings. There are all sorts of people who made it in the Hall
of Faith. But what did they all have in common? They heard the word of God; they
believed the word of God; and they responded to the word of God by faith.
Now understand something: in our first birth we are separated from one another. I'm
talking about the act of being physically born - our physical birth. This separates us.
Now we read in the basic preambles of our system of government that "all men are
created equal." Now that's not true in a pure sense. We are created equal before the
law - we hope. We are created equal in the sight of God - we anticipate. And we
have equal opportunity - is what we desire. But the idea that we are all bor ...
